EANC Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Commemorative Logo and Continued Support of Estonian-American Community
July 19, 2022With Addition of E-Voting Option, the Election of the XXIII Estonian American National Council (EANC) Begins
August 8, 2022July 28, 2022 – For immediate release. One hundred years ago, the U.S. Department of State advised the governments of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania that as of July 28, 1922, it would extend formal recognition to each. The centennial of this event is being celebrated both in the United States and the three Baltic countries with publications, films, and events. Of note is the just released overview of the 100 years of Estonian-U.S. relations in an Estonian-language documentary produced by Neeme Raud (with English-language interviews) at https://etv.err.ee/1608657502/eesti-ja-usa-sajand-katkematu-suhe.
The Estonian American National Council marks with gratitude the 100 years of continuous diplomatic relations, especially with Ernst Jaakson’s government in exile, during the years of Soviet occupation. The U.S. non-recognition provided the basis for the re-establishment of the three Baltic governments, and U.S. support for NATO accession has proved to be of existential importance to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Estonian Americans are grateful for the continuous support of the U.S. for Estonia and Latvia and Lithuania. We have worked hard to further these relationships and will continue to do so, for the result is mutually advantageous. As is evident from Estonian journalist Neeme Raud’s documentary, Estonia gives as well as receives – a point we must and will continue to make. EANC will work to ensure the continuation of the positive diplomatic relations that currently exist between the two nations.
