A Fond Farewell
June 19, 2022EANC Marks 100 Years of U.S.-Baltic Diplomatic Relations
July 28, 2022To mark its 70 years of service to Estonian Americans, EANC thanks its donors, volunteers and supporters, and releases this commemorative logo.*
The Estonian American National Council was established on July 19, 1952, in New York City by post-World War II refugees seeking to restore independence in Estonia, while making a new life in the United States. EANC was born from the need for a single national organization to unify and lead Estonians exiled in the U.S. Its founding aim was to coordinate efforts in fighting communism and liberating Estonia, along with the other nations trapped behind the Iron Curtain, and it has a 70-year history of advocacy in the U.S. throughout the changing landscape of Estonia’s occupation, its struggle for independence, and its evolution into a partner on the world stage.
Current Council president Marju Rink-Abel stated: „EANC’s 70th anniversary is a remarkable milestone in the history of Estonian Americans. The generation that founded EANC is almost gone, but their goals have more than been achieved. Estonia is once again independent, and EANC continues its work to support our homeland, while helping to keep alive our cherished Estonian traditions in the United States.“
Recent events in Ukraine show the continued relevance of EANC’s mission of advocating for Estonian security, and working with partner organizations in the U.S. and abroad. EANC also has a proud history pf supporting, representing and speaking up for the Estonian community in the U.S. through its council of nationally-elected volunteers.
This summer Estonian Americans will elect the XXIII Council to carry on the traditions while also adapting EANC´s approach to its mission as the community and needs evolve. EANC Representatives are also active in the Estonian World Council (ÜEKN) and the Global Estonian Commission for Cooperation , established by the Estonian government (See below for information on voter registration.) Eligible voters are urged to register to vote via paper ballot or electronically at www.estosite.org . Voting by mail ballots have been sent to the full EANC mailing list, e-voting opens in August. The deadline for voting is September 10, 2022.
EANC is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization sustained by voluntary, tax-deductible contributions from the Estonian American community. We thank all of our donors, supporters and partners for their continued support!
