EANC Statement on Announced Closure of Estonian Consulates in NY and San Francisco
September 30, 2023Appeal against the Closure of the Consulate General of Estonia in New York (with signatures)
October 5, 2023The Estonian Foreign Ministry’s September 26th decision to close the Estonian Consulates General in New York and San Francisco (as of summer 2024) has been reverberating quickly throughout the Estonian-American community. This truly unexpected and far-reaching decision regarding these crucial representations will undoubtedly have numerous repercussions and lasting consequences. Closing Estonia´s consulates on the two coasts is a blow to the mutual accessibility between citizens, public, and the Republic of Estonia.
As the organization representing Estonians in the United States, Estonian American National Council (EANC) is encouraging Estonian communities and friends of Estonia nationwide to voice their opinions urging the Foreign Ministry to reconsider the announced closure of these crucial institutions.
For a better result, EANC urges you to be persistent, and emphasizes the need to work together.
