JBANC Statement on Ukraine
February 21, 2025Independence and democracy. Freedom and human rights. Self determination and security. Opportunitities and a democratic system of government upheld through a just and fair legal system. Respect for individuality and equality under the law. These truths and ideals are what the United States has long stood for and championed, and these are what have made the United States of America great in ideals, and great in practice.
The beautiful thing about the Constitution and our democratic structure is that everyone has a voice, and the right to advocate for their needs, their cause, their beliefs.
There are tens of thousands of Americans of Estonian-descent in the USA, and together with our Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts, our collective voice numbers roughly 760,000–830,000 people, not even including the hundred of thousands who call theselves members of the other Central and East European communities. We are proud Americans and we are thankful for such good friends and neighbors throughout time. Each voice matters, and together our voice is louder. Let’s work together to make our messages heard, loud and clear, with respect and reason.
EANC continues its 70+ year history of being proud Americans, committed to democratic ideals and the rights of nations to sovereignty and slef-detremination. We stand together for the intersts of Estonian Americans and for the security of a democratic, independent, and free Republic of Estonia. In this light, today we also advocate passionately for the people and the rightful, democratic nation of Ukraine as they fight for their freedom, and for peace in Europe.
Everyone says call your representative, stand for Ukraine, speak our for Estonian , Baltic, Ukrainianm etc. interests. But how? We have put together a small kit of tools and resources to get started. Bring a friend and get involved!

Ongoing acts of military, cyber and diplomatic aggression by the Putin regime—most recently manifested in Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine—translate into an existential threat to Baltics. NATO is the cornerstone that ensures security against Moscow’s aggression in the Baltics. We as Americans need to ensure that Congress and the White House protect U.S. interests in the Baltics and Europe by promoting ironclad and unequivocal support of NATO, as well as robust and stable partnership between the U.S. and its Baltic allies.
To counter this, the American Latvian Association (ALA) has established a grass-roots group called the Baltic Call to Action UNIT. The UNIT’s goal is to inform U.S. elected officials, government, and policy makers about American interests in the Baltics, especially on matters of defense and security to protect U.S. interests there on a bi-partisan basis.
On an ongoing basis, ALA’s UNIT Management Team identifies, develops and issues four strategic Calls to Action per year, such as providing information to members of Congress about legislation key for NATO support, urging Congress members to join the Baltic Caucus, sending thanks to officials for their NATO/Baltic leadership, etc. We work closely with our daughter organization, the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC), to strategize on messaging and timing.
WE VALUE YOUR TIME! While political and military events often require immediate response, we know that not everyone can commit to participating quickly on a consistent basis. The Callto Action Unit makes it easy to act by providing you a link to each of your three elected officials’ Contact Pages, and supplying a text targeted for each official. All you need to do is click, copy and paste—done. We try to keep it at only four (4) Calls to Action per year, and alotting a minute or so per each official, this translates to 4 Calls x 3 officials (one rep and two senators) x 1 minute to contact each = 15 minutes per year!
