A Tale of Mythological Rebirth told through performative interpretations of the Estonian folk calendar. Created and directed by Estonian-born artists choreographer Diina Tamm and musician Valev Laube, this live performance, funded in part by EANC, offers an enchanted look at Estonian traditions through a modern lens. A must-see!
Join us at the New York Estonian House on Saturday, June 4th!
This unique multidisciplinary performance fuses together dance and musical interpretations of Estonian mythology, folk calendar traditions, and old archive recordings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. We invite you to experience a multisensory experience of a year in life told through the tales of mystic rituals, old and new folklore tunes, and traditions that have shaped modern-day understandings and practices of our cultural identity.
The folk-inspired contemporary performance is directed by two Estonian-born artists Diina Tamm and Valev Laube. It will reveal sides of Estonian culture that, regardless of no longer being celebrated on a daily basis, still influences the cultural legacy and continuous evolution of our cultural identity.
