Program
12.30 – Arrival

The Estonian Society of Los Angeles is very pleased and honored to celebrate this important milestone for Estonia with a luncheon under the Air Force One at the Reagan Library

For Estonia, a country deeply affected by Russia,   the words “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” spoken by U.S. President Ronald Reagan played a very important part in the fight for Estonian independence. It was on June 12, 1987 that Reagan stood at the Brandenburg Gate and gave what is now known as the Berlin Wall Speech, viewed by the entire world. The impact of those words is one of the reasons we choose to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Republic of Estonia at The Reagan Library and Museum.

The speech included these words:
“There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

You can view it here again: https://www.reaganfoundation.org/ronald-reagan/reagan-quotes-speeches/remarks-on-east-west-relations-at-the-brandenburg-gate-in-west-berlin/

Also, 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the inauguration of Ronald Reagan as America’s 40th president.  It’s a year of re-examining his legacy, re-telling one of America’s greatest stories, re-living a remarkable run as President, and introducing an icon to a new generation.

Our celebration includes a special guest and opening speech, a luncheon under Air Force One,  a docent-led tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and the amazing Air Force One Pavilion, plus a self-guided tour of the spectacular special exhibit FBI – FROM AL CAPONE TO AL-QAEDA
