33rd Anniversary of the Baltic Way

The Baltic Way was a peaceful political demonstration, which took place on 23 August in 1989, when approximately two million people joined their hands forming a 600 km-long human chain through the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, thus demonstrating their unity in their efforts towards freedom from forcible Soviet occupation.

Join us at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, Connecticut to commemorate this important event with Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians and other freedom-loving peoples to stand for the independence of rightful nations.

Program

11:30 – 12 – Flags and flowers are placed at “Freedom Tree” and monument dedicated to Baltic independence

12 – Start of official program:

  • Introduction of participants and guests: by Mr. Paulius Nenortas
  • Short Overview – The Significance of the Baltic Way in 1989 – Dr. Dahlia Giedrimiene
  • Estonia – Determination and Independence – Ms. Carol Klammer
  • Latvia – Fight for Freedom and Independence. The Role of E.L.L.A — Mr. Valdis Vinkels
  • Lithuania – Baltic Way and Independence Declaration – Ms. Dzina Inkratiene
  • Baltic Region and Ukraine today – Fight for Freedom – Mr. Alexander Kuzma
  • Short speeches by guests.
