Why Estonian Americans Join the Council
For many of us, joining the Estonian American National Council (EANC/ERKÜ) has been about more than holding a title — it’s been about purpose, community, and connection. Since 1952, the EANC has served as the nationally elected voice of Estonian Americans, dedicated to preserving our heritage, strengthening cultural ties, and supporting Estonia’s place in the world.
Our Council members come from diverse backgrounds, but they share a common motivation: a desire to make a meaningful impact in the Estonian American community. Whether advocating for cultural events, fostering Estonian language and traditions, or building bridges between our community and broader American society, Council volunteers contribute their time, passion, and experience to something larger than themselves.
Below, you’ll read personal reflections from current and past members — real stories about what inspired them to get involved, how serving the Council has shaped their lives, and why they believe this work matters.
