DESCRIPTION:Estonian stars of stage and film Mart Sander and Triin Lellep bring a double feature of Estonian culture and entertainment. Come for the screening\, stay for the show!   \n\n\n\nAdvance screening of “Dr. Sander’s Sleep Cure.”   \n\n\n\nThe official American premiere will take place on February 24th at the Nevermore Film Festival in Durham\, NC. Come to find out how this film made it into the Guiness Book of World Records. Run-time is 1h 38 minutes\, and will be followed by a Q&A session.  \n\n\n\nBegins at 4:30 pm; tickets for the film are $10 at the door. \n\n\n\nConcert: “Tallinn\, Broadway\, Hollywood”  \n\n\n\nFeaturing Mart Sander and Triin Lellep\, who will be performing beloved melodies from Estonian legend Raimond Valgre’s catalog; as well as A.L. Webber and Edith Piaf’s repertoire. They will also perform some well-known Broadway and Hollywood film songs. DESCRIPTION:Eesti Vabariigi 196. Aastapäeva tähistamine \n\n\n\nThe Connecticut Estonian Society’s Estonian Independence Day celebration will occur on Saturday\, February 17th\, at 3:00 PM. The event will again be held at the Baltic Restaurant\, 237 New Britain Road\, Berlin\, CT. 06037. This venue replicates an actual Baltic Manor and features superb Baltic Sea regional cuisine. \n\n\n\nCES is honored to welcome this years guest speaker\, Mr. Margus Särglepp\, the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Estonian Embassy in Washington\, D.C. The short program will feature a performance by Dr. Hando Nahkur\, one of the leading Estonian pianists of his generation. Hando is internationally acclaimed with numerous awards and has concertized in more than eighteen countries worldwide.   \n\n\n\nThe program may well include a few other local performers\, and our traditional raffle with quality prizes. The evening´s DJ music for listening and dancing is provided by Kristjan Karu. \n\n\n\nThe full Baltic buffet features roast pork loin\, sauerkraut\, stuffed cabbage\, chicken\, kielbasa\, and more. DESCRIPTION:Estophilus scholarship applications are now being accepted.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe purpose of Estophilus scholarship is to support the Estonia-specific research of students enrolled in universities abroad and of international researchers interested in the Estonian language and culture (in Estonia)\, by thus contributing to the exchange of knowledge and making Estonia more visible. The activity results in increased number of studies related to Estonia and of the students interested in the Estonian language and culture. \n\n\n\nWho can apply? \n\n\n\nThe Estophilus scholarship may be applied for by the foreign nationals final year BA students\, master’s students\, PhD students and post-doctorate researchers from universities abroad while staying in Estonia for conducting research or collecting material about Estonia for 1-5 months. The Estonian language proficiency is an advantage but not a requirement. The research plan has to focus on topics related to Estonia in specific.   \n\n\n\nThe scholarship programme is managed by the Education and Youth Board of Estonia. However\, the primary contact of the grantee before and during the research mobility is the grantee’s academic supervisor at an Estonian university. \n\n\n\nApplication round of the EKKAV program for the fall semester of the 2023/24 academic year is open. The grant application period is 04.12.2023–22.12.2023.

DESCRIPTION:Scholarships applications for summer and winter Estonian language courses will be accepted from Dec 4 through December 22.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe EKKAV scholarship for attending Estonian language and culture summer/winter courses can be applied for by all the international university students interested in the Estonian language and culture who are studying or have previously studied Estonian. ERKÜ taastas Visnapuu auhinna 2020. aastal\, otsustades auhinda välja anda igal teisel aastal ning laiendas auhinna haardeulatust üldisemaks kultuuriauhinnaks. \n\n\n\nThe literary prize named for beloved Estonian writer Henrik Visnapuu was initially created in the USA in 1952 and was awarded until 2007. EANC re-estabished the Visnapuu Award in 2020\, and now presents the award every other year. EANC partners with the Estonian Writers Union and the municipality of Luunja (where Visnapuu was born).  \n\n\n\nThe selection committee will announce the nominees on November 1st. Stay tuned!

DESCRIPTION:EANC’s XXIII Council convenes in person for its Annual Meeting since before the Covid pandemic. With a new Council Body elected in 2022\, the meeting is long-awaited and promises to be inclusive and productive\, with an eye to the future. This year is also an election year\, and EANC president Marju Rink-Abel will pass on the mantel after serving four terms at the helm of this nationally-elected council.   \n\n\n\nAs we cap off our 70th anniversary year and keep our focus on the future\, we will be mindful to also mark the upcoming 80th anniversary year of the Mass Flight of Refugees\, who were forced to flee Soviet oppression in 1944. That tragic mass exodus and the historical events of the time must continue to stay in the public mind’s eye. Our invaluable Estonian communities abroad are now like diamonds created by that immense pressure\, and we will continue to value and treasure them\, providing support\, collaboration and a larger voice as we move purposefully and with inspiration toward the future.  \n\n\n\nOnce our regular Annual Meeting duties are complete\, we to invite the public to join our 70th anniversary celebration\, complete with dinner\, entertainment and dancing at the Lakewood Estonian House. DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS)\, the Washington\, DC public affairs bureau of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA)\, this advocacy event is another important endeavor for the Ukrainian American community\, especially given the 15-month war of Russian aggression in Ukraine. \n\n\n\n\nRegister today\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs Ukraine enters the summer months of another year of the kremlin’s full-scale invasion\, the June 14-15th advocacy event will be an opportunity to meet in-person with congressional offices and to promote immediate concerns for increased security assistance for Ukraine for a decisive victory; imposing more sanctions against Russia; designating the Wagner Group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO); and\, recognition of the current war\, the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children\, and the Holodomor as genocide.  \n\n\n\nAs is traditional\, the highlight of the “Ukrainian Days” advocacy program will include presentations of the “Friend of UNIS” award to Members of Congress and others who have shown overwhelming support for Ukraine and the enhancement of U.S.-Ukraine relations.
