SUMMARY:Online Discussion: Parliamentary Perspectives of the Ukraine-Russia Crisis
DESCRIPTION: The Atlantic Council’s Europe Center  invites you to a virtual public discussion on European legislative perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine crisis. .\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Featuring:Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MPChair\, Defence Select Committee UK House of CommonsEerik-Niiles Kross MPMember\, Foreign Affairs Committee Riigikogu – Parliament of EstoniaMiriam Lexmann MEPMember\, Committee on Foreign Affairs European Parliament (European People’s Party―Slovakia) \n\n\n\nRussia’s aggression against Ukraine threatens the security not just of Kyiv but all of Europe\, bringing the continent the closest it has been to full-scale war for the past 70 years. Russia’s continued election meddling\, border revisionism\, and continued provocations against Central and Eastern European NATO members widen the lens of this crisis\, especially as Russian demands have included a wide-reaching restructuring of Europe’s post-Cold War security system. In response\, European capitals from Tallinn to London have been in a flurry of policy debates and actions\, including negotiations\, arms shipments\, and sanctions coordination to push back against Russian aggression. As this crisis unfolds\, Europe’s policymakers and legislators will play an important role in approving and institutionalizing European states’ efforts to counter Russia’s aggression. To discuss what actions Europe can take in the face of the escalating crisis\, the Europe Center is proud to host legislators and parliamentarians from across Europe’s national parliaments and the European Parliament to discuss their perspectives of the crisis and what role European countries and European institutions must play in resolving it. This discussion will take place on Zoom and will be broadcast on YouTube\, Twitter\, and Facebook To receive the event information\, please register using the button below. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to watch the event. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP to attend online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n About the Europe Center The Europe Center promotes the leadership and strategies required to bolster the vision of a strong Europe advancing a better global future in partnership with the United States. The Center seeks to understand change in Europe\, galvanize leadership and forge a strategy of renewal.   For more information\, visit atlanticcouncil.org and follow us on Twitter @ACEurope.

SUMMARY:Atlantic Council: A Conversation on the US role in the NATO Alliance
DESCRIPTION:What is the United States’ role in the alliance and how can NATO members continue to support Ukraine? United States Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis discuss. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing: \n\n\n\n The Hon. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)Co-Chair\, Senate NATO Observer GroupUS SenateThe Hon. Thom Tillis (R-NC)Co-Chair\, Senate NATO Observer GroupUS Senate \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Join the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative\, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security\, on Monday\, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. for a conversation with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) . This conversation will be held virtually via Zoom. The war in Ukraine has ushered in a sea change in transatlantic security. In response to Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war\, the United States and its NATO allies have provided unprecedented military and political support to Ukraine in its fight for freedom\, increased the alliance’s deterrence and defense posture especially along its Eastern Flank\, and remained steadfast in maintaining an “open door policy” for prospective new members such as Sweden and Finland. Still\, as Russia’s war in Ukraine shifts into a new phase and NATO contemplates how to adapt in a changed security environment\, it is imperative that the transatlantic community explores what is next for the Alliance and the United States specifically. The Atlantic Council is excited to welcome Senators Shaheen and Tillis to discuss what long-term support the United States and its allies can offer to Ukraine and its people\, how to strengthen Western resolve and unity through the upcoming winter\, and how to bolster collective defense to resist expanding Russian aggression\, including in critical regions such as the Black Sea.The Scowcroft Center’s Transatlantic Security Initiative is pleased to present this live event as part of the Atlantic Council’s #ACFrontPage event series\, our premier ideas platform spotlighting global leaders and championing constructive solutions to global challenges. The Transatlantic Security Initiative shapes and influences the debate on the greatest security challenges facing the North Atlantic Alliance and its key partners.\n\n\n\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis ahead of the Washington Summit
DESCRIPTION:Tune in to hear Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis as he sits down with Senior Fellow Peter Rough on the eve of the Washington summit to discuss the prospects for Ukraine and the outlook for Lithuanian security. He will be introduced by Hudson Visiting Fellow Tomas Janeliūnas of Vilnius University. \n\n\n\nWatch live: A Conversation with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis ahead of the Washington Summit | Hudson Institute \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Gabrielus Landsbergis\, Foreign Minister of Lithuania \n\n\n\nUpon taking office as foreign minister of Lithuania in December 2020\, Gabrielius Landsbergis quickly made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most effective diplomats. Early in his term\, he announced that Lithuania would no longer participate in the Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (China-CEEC) format; Estonia and Latvia withdrew the following year. Moreover\, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, Landsbergis has outspokenly defended Ukrainian sovereignty and denounced Russia’s occupation. In fact\, his clarity on the threat Russia poses goes back years. As he put it in June 2024\, “I’m Lithuanian\, and we strongly disapproved of Russian imperialism before it was common to do so.” \n\n\n\nFurthermore\, Foreign Minister Landsbergis has time and again made the case for the transatlantic alliance and underscored the importance of a strong American presence in Europe. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Rough\, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTomas Janeliūnas\, Visiting Fellow in the Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInquiries: msnow@hudson.org

SUMMARY:Webinar: The Fate of Europe: Ukraine\, the Baltic Region\, and Collective Security
DESCRIPTION:The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies hosts this online roundtable discussion on “The Fate of Europe: Ukraine\, the Baltic Region\, and Collective Security.” \n\n\n\nSince 2014\, the Ukrainian state and society have shown strength and resilience in resisting Russian aggression. Given the decisions of the new United States administration to engage Putin’s Russia and chastise Ukrainian leadership\, will Ukraine be able to continue defending its sovereignty? What are the implications of the recent changes in the US position towards Russia for European security\, including Nordic and Baltic security? How will Europeans approach their collective security in a new era of transatlantic relations? \n\n\n\nThese and other questions will be tackled by Hanna Shelest (Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”) Marko Lehti (Tampere Peace Research Institute)\, and Ginta Palubinskas (West Virginia State University). The webinar will be moderated by Daunis Auers (University of Latvia) and welcome remarks will be delivered by AABS President Jörg Hackmann (University of Szczecin).  \n\n\n\nLearn more about the participants on the AABS website. \n\n\n\n\nRegister here
