After a year of social distancing\, mask mandates and many virtual events\, we are eager and very excited to get together in person once again!  This year\, however\, we will be gathering at a new venue\, the Finnish Center at Saima Park. \nNestled in the beautiful woods on the outskirts of Fitchburg\, the Ravintola & Sirkka Liukkonen Memorial Pavilion is an idea setting for our summer picnic.  The open-air pavilion is equipped with picnic tables\, a large barbeque grill\, electricity for music and toilet facilities. DESCRIPTION:Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day is celebrated on August 20th each year to celebrate the day in 1991 when Estonia regained its freedom\, lost to the Soviet Union more than five decades earlier. \n\n\n\nCome and join Chicago Estonians to celebrate Estonian Restoration of Independence with food\, music\, folk dance\, speeches and other fun activities on August 2th 2022 in McHenry\, IL. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive music with masterful accordion player Henrik Henderson. ECSC  also have invited an Estonian nationally renowned folk musician Henrik Hinrikus to perform at this celebration. Henrik is helping lead a resurgent movement of folk music across Estonia with his dynamic solo performances of the accordion. Henrik has performed at over 800 events throughout the years and is a greatly accomplished\, highly entertaining musical mastermind. He will be performing traditional Estonian songs on his Teppo’s diatonic accordion\, many of which can be sung along to. The films of Baltic countries were often inspired by their Nordic neighbors. The result is a creative output of wonderful films that deserve to be shared and celebrated in Hollywood – the film capital of the world! \n\n\n\nScandinavian Film Festival L.A. was founded for the purpose “cinema cultural exchange” and the sharing of an important\, significant body of work with the Los Angeles film audience – industry professionals\, film lovers\, those who love subtitles and the flavor of language\, those reading subtitles for the first time\, and those who don’t have to read the subtitles at all. In creating an annual residency for Nordic film in Southern California we offer an opportunity for all to see the representative “best” of Nordic film making in any given year. The Northern “lights\, camera\, action” of our program includes films submitted for “Oscar” competition. For those in that race we offer further “buzz” – further publicity\, further exposure. The program also includes additional current feature films\, shorts\, and an occasional documentary. Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. brings people together for the shared experience of the film\, and leads to networking\, discussion\, inspiration\, business\, and pleasure. \n\n\n\nParent organization of SFFLA is the American Scandinavian Foundation of Los Angeles.

But not just any Estonian children\, rather Estonian children living in North America! \n\n\n\nYou’ll spend time together to have fun and excitement\, enjoying a beautiful summer with activities together. All participate are welcome – whatever your interests and talents are. All we expect from you is the curiosity to explore! \n\n\n\nYou should definitely say ‘yes’ to the invitation if you are: \n\n\n\n– Between 6 – 17 years old.– Brave enough to take the first step and try new and exciting things.– An explorer – you are ready to go somewhere you may not have been before.– Full of curiosity to explore different talents.– Creative – you love to spend your time around music\, dance\, art\, craft\, playing or just spending time in nature. \n\n\n\nIs that all sounds great\, then pack your suitcase and get ready to spend July 31st\, 2023-August 6th\, 2023 at a youth camp in Chicago’s Estonian House\, USA! \n\n\n\nActivities:1. Creativity workshops: music\, singing\, art\, lots of different kinds of dance\, acting\, games\, crafts\, art\, singing games. \n\n\n\n2. Nature: survival games\, knowledge of life\, treasure hunting\, orienteering\, campfires. \n\n\n\n3. Sports: volleyball\, basketball\, badminton\, athletics\, archery \n\n\n\nThe camp ends with a big performance!Younger campers (3-5 years old) will have the opportunity to participate in two half days of camp life and the final performance. \n\n\n\nCamp Facilitators:Kohila children’s camp “Play is the work of a little person” led by Anneliis Kõiv\, dance coaches from Free Flow Studio\, music making with Ingmar Kiviloo.
