The films of Baltic countries were often inspired by their Nordic neighbors. The result is a creative output of wonderful films that deserve to be shared and celebrated in Hollywood – the film capital of the world! \n\n\n\nScandinavian Film Festival L.A. was founded for the purpose “cinema cultural exchange” and the sharing of an important\, significant body of work with the Los Angeles film audience – industry professionals\, film lovers\, those who love subtitles and the flavor of language\, those reading subtitles for the first time\, and those who don’t have to read the subtitles at all. In creating an annual residency for Nordic film in Southern California we offer an opportunity for all to see the representative “best” of Nordic film making in any given year. The Northern “lights\, camera\, action” of our program includes films submitted for “Oscar” competition. For those in that race we offer further “buzz” – further publicity\, further exposure. The program also includes additional current feature films\, shorts\, and an occasional documentary. DESCRIPTION:Henrik Visnapuu nimeline kirjanduspreemia loodi USAs 1952 ja seda anti välja kuni aastani 2007. Seejärel tegevus katkes auhinnafondi loonute surma tõttu. ERKÜ taastas Visnapuu auhinna 2020. aastal\, otsustades auhinda välja anda igal teisel aastal ning laiendas auhinna haardeulatust üldisemaks kultuuriauhinnaks. \n\n\n\nThe literary prize named for beloved Estonian writer Henrik Visnapuu was initially created in the USA in 1952 and was awarded until 2007. EANC re-estabished the Visnapuu Award in 2020\, and now presents the award every other year. EANC partners with the Estonian Writers Union and the municipality of Luunja (where Visnapuu was born).  \n\n\n\nThe selection committee will announce the nominees on November 1st. Stay tuned!

The applicant must be enrolled at a foreign university at the time of application (BA\, MA or PhD student). \n\n\n\nThe 2023/24 academic year Fall semester round of applications is open. The application period runs December 4th through December 22th (11:59pm Estonian time). \n\n\n\nImportant: \n\n\n\n\nThe applicant must register for the summer or winter course himself/herself;The course participation fee\, accommodation and cultural excursions of the summer and winter courses will be covered with the scholarship;  \n\n\n\nThe travelling expenses will be self-financed by the applicant;  \n\n\n\nWhen using the scholarship (attending the summer and winter courses)\, the grantee is expected to follow the course organiser’s instructions regarding travelling to Estonia (possible restrictions) and participation in the course (more information can be found on the course websites or via direct contact with the organiser); The applicant is expected to mark his/her preference regarding a specific summer or winter course in the application.\n\n\n\n\nRequired application documents are: \n\n\n\n\nformal application where the applicant describes the additional value deriving from participation in the course;\n\n\n\nrecommendation letter from the applicant’s Estonian lecturer / other certificate regarding knowledge of Estonian.\n\n\n\n\nThe evaluation and decision procedure normally takes until 45 days from the date of the announced application deadline. DESCRIPTION:In person and Virtual film festival  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoston\, MA. The Sixth Annual Boston Baltic Film Festival (BBFF) will take place in March 2024 with in-person screenings followed by two weeks of virtual screenings across the U.S. In-person screenings and events will take place at the Emerson Paramount Theater’s Bright Family Screening Room in downtown Boston March 1-3\, 2024.  Virtual screenings will be offered March 4-16\, 2024. \n\n\n\nThe line-up of 20 critically acclaimed films offered from Estonia\, Latvia\, and Lithuania can be seen on the website: www.bostonbalticfilm.org\, \n\n\n\nTickets and passes for both in-person and virtual screenings will go on sale through our website on February 5\, 2024. \n\n\n\nThe film industries in the three Baltic countries consistently produce films that garner awards in international festivals around the world. Boston audiences will be able to engage with the filmmakers in Q&A after the screenings and during a panel discussion on Friday\, March 1\, 2024.The Festival is organized by the Baltic Film Committee and the American National Latvian League (ALTS)\, in collaboration with ArtsEmerson. SUMMARY:Sneak Preview: The Paradox of Seabrook Farms @ Boston Baltic Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:EANC is proud to help present the long-awaited documentary The Paradox of Seabrook Farms will be shown as part of the 6th Annual Boston Baltic Film Festival (BBFF) at the Emerson Paramount Theater Center in downtown Boston. The in-person festival runs March 1-3\, followed by a two-week virtual festival. (Please note that the Seabrook film will not be available virtually at this time.)Film-maker Helga Merits will be present to introduce the film and for an introductory talk\, where she will also take audience. On Friday\, March 1 she will also be participating with other filmmakers on a panel discussion about the Baltic film industry. \n\n\n\nEANC is a proud supporter of this documentary\, and welcomes its addition to the line-up of events marking 80 years since the 1944 Mass Flight of Refugees\, a tragic time in history when 80\,000 Estonians were forced to flee their beloved homeland to escape the terror of Soviet occupiers. Documentaries such as ‘The Paradox of Seabrook Farms: Shattered Dreams\, Restored Hopes’  are important vehicles for keeping the historical record straight.
