The films of Baltic countries were often inspired by their Nordic neighbors. In creating an annual residency for Nordic film in Southern California we offer an opportunity for all to see the representative “best” of Nordic film making in any given year. The show invites everyone to experience a multisensory story of a year in life told through the tales and mystic rituals of the Estonian folk calendar\, old and new folklore tunes\, and traditions that have shaped modern-day understandings and practices of our cultural identity. \n\n\n\n​The folk-inspired contemporary performance is directed by two Estonian-born artists Diina Tamm and Valev Laube. ERKÜ taastas Visnapuu auhinna 2020. aastal\, otsustades auhinda välja anda igal teisel aastal ning laiendas auhinna haardeulatust üldisemaks kultuuriauhinnaks. \n\n\n\nThe literary prize named for beloved Estonian writer Henrik Visnapuu was initially created in the USA in 1952 and was awarded until 2007. EANC re-estabished the Visnapuu Award in 2020\, and now presents the award every other year. EANC partners with the Estonian Writers Union and the municipality of Luunja (where Visnapuu was born).  \n\n\n\nThe selection committee will announce the nominees on November 1st. Stay tuned!

DESCRIPTION:Scholarships applications for summer and winter Estonian language courses will be accepted from Dec 4 through December 22.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe EKKAV scholarship for attending Estonian language and culture summer/winter courses can be applied for by all the international university students interested in the Estonian language and culture who are studying or have previously studied Estonian. The applicant must be enrolled at a foreign university at the time of application (BA\, MA or PhD student). \n\n\n\nThe 2023/24 academic year Fall semester round of applications is open. The application period runs December 4th through December 22th (11:59pm Estonian time). \n\n\n\nImportant: \n\n\n\n\nThe applicant must register for the summer or winter course himself/herself;The course participation fee\, accommodation and cultural excursions of the summer and winter courses will be covered with the scholarship;  \n\n\n\nThe travelling expenses will be self-financed by the applicant;  \n\n\n\nWhen using the scholarship (attending the summer and winter courses)\, the grantee is expected to follow the course organiser’s instructions regarding travelling to Estonia (possible restrictions) and participation in the course (more information can be found on the course websites or via direct contact with the organiser); The applicant is expected to mark his/her preference regarding a specific summer or winter course in the application.\n\n\n\n\nRequired application documents are: \n\n\n\n\nformal application where the applicant describes the additional value deriving from participation in the course;\n\n\n\nrecommendation letter from the applicant’s Estonian lecturer / other certificate regarding knowledge of Estonian.\n\n\n\n\nThe evaluation and decision procedure normally takes until 45 days from the date of the announced application deadline.
