DESCRIPTION:EANC is a proud sponsor of the the 6th Annual New York Baltic Film Festival (NYBFF).  Presented by Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America\, the festival returns this November continuing its tradition of bringing the best new films from the Baltic region to New York audiences.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNovember 8-12\, in-person screenings and events will be held at Scandinavia House in New York.  \n\n\n\nNovember 8-19\, 2023 offering both in-person and virtual screenings. \n“As we celebrate the global success of Baltic films at major international film festivals\, we invite you to join us at Scandinavia House and see the world through Baltic eyes.” ~ NYBFF Head of Programs Jūle Rozite.\n\n\n\nVirtual viewing is once again available to viewers across the U.S. via Elevent streaming platform from November 10-19. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTake some friends for a night out at the movies: The in-person lineup has something for everyone! In the blink of eye\, it’s gone. ‘What Would You Take’ is a documentary narrative portraits from Ukrainian refugees\, the largest displacement of people in Europe since the Second World War. \n\n\n\nIn-Person Screening: Thursday\, November 9\, 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nThe film screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Andrew Horodysky (Ukrainian Institute of America) with director Heilika Pikkov\, painter Lesia Khomenko\, and art historian and curator Katherine Carl and will conclude with a concert by Estonian musician Maria Faust. \n\n\n\n$10 from each screening ticket will be donated to the Ukrainian war humanitarian relief effort. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSMOKE SAUNA SISTERHOOD   (Savvusanna sõsarad)Anna Hints\, Estonia/France/Iceland\, 202389 minutes\, In Estonian\, Seto\, Võro with English subtitlesSmoke Sauna Sisterhood intimately explores the healing and communal experience of Estonian smoke saunas\, highlighting their age-old tradition as a ritual among women in the Võro region. The film’s masterful cinematography and authentic portrayal of women delves into themes of trauma\, healing\, and sisterhood. It won an award for Best Director at Sundance\, and has been chosen as Estonia’s contender for the Academy Awards. \n\n\n\nDirector Anna Hints will present a Q&A following the screening of the film. \n\n\n\nIn-Person Screening: Sunday\, November 12\, 7:00 pm \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMACHINA FAUST (Machina Faust)Kaupo Kruusiauk\, Estonia\, 202377 minutes.
