SUMMARY:A Conversation with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis ahead of the Washington Summit
DESCRIPTION:Tune in to hear Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis as he sits down with Senior Fellow Peter Rough on the eve of the Washington summit to discuss the prospects for Ukraine and the outlook for Lithuanian security. He will be introduced by Hudson Visiting Fellow Tomas Janeliūnas of Vilnius University. \n\n\n\nWatch live: A Conversation with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis ahead of the Washington Summit | Hudson Institute \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Gabrielus Landsbergis\, Foreign Minister of Lithuania \n\n\n\nUpon taking office as foreign minister of Lithuania in December 2020\, Gabrielius Landsbergis quickly made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most effective diplomats. Early in his term\, he announced that Lithuania would no longer participate in the Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (China-CEEC) format; Estonia and Latvia withdrew the following year. Moreover\, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, Landsbergis has outspokenly defended Ukrainian sovereignty and denounced Russia’s occupation. In fact\, his clarity on the threat Russia poses goes back years. As he put it in June 2024\, “I’m Lithuanian\, and we strongly disapproved of Russian imperialism before it was common to do so.” \n\n\n\nFurthermore\, Foreign Minister Landsbergis has time and again made the case for the transatlantic alliance and underscored the importance of a strong American presence in Europe. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Rough\, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTomas Janeliūnas\, Visiting Fellow in the Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInquiries: msnow@hudson.org

SUMMARY:Atlantic Council Talk: Securing the Eastern Flank: A Baltic Agenda for 2024 NATO Summit
DESCRIPTION:In Case You Missed it\, watch the video on our YouTube page or by clicking the button below: \n\n\n\n\nWatch video \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin in person or online to attend the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative\, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security\, for a public event exploring the Baltic states’ priorities for the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington\, DC. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSince last year’s Summit in Vilnius\, Lithuania\, the security landscape in NATO’s eastern flank has shifted significantly. New defense plans and strong defense spending\, coupled with the historic accession of Sweden and Finland\, has reorganized the Baltic Sea into a “NATO lake.” Despite this major step forward for regional security\, ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine demands a continued focus on stability. The NATO Summit taking place in Washington\, DC\, presents a pivotal opportunity to solidify allied gains made since last July and send a strong signal to Moscow amid continuing war on the European continent.   \n\n\n\nWith less than five weeks until the Washington Summit\, the Atlantic Council is pleased to welcome the Lithuanian\, Latvian\, and Estonian Permanent Representatives to NATO for a discussion exploring Baltic defense priorities and views on the future of NATO beyond its 75th anniversary. The Permanent Representatives will delve into the collaborative efforts between the US\, the Baltic states\, and other NATO allies as they strengthen efforts to bolster support for Ukraine and collective defense and deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank. \n\n\n\nThis event is part of the Transatlantic Security Initiative’s 2024 NATO Washington Summit campaign. For more information and updates on future events and publications\, follow @ACScowcroft.  This conversation will take place in-person and will be broadcast on YouTube\, X\, Facebook\, and LinkedIn. \n\n\n\nFEATURED SPEAKERSH.E. It is an anniversary to rally support against the violence\, lies and threats perpetrated by the regime in Moscow – not only against Ukraine\, but also against the U.S.\, the Baltics and our allies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this election year\, Congress and candidates need to see and hear public support for Ukraine\, to ensure the U.S. continues to support Ukraine now – and the Baltics in the future. \n\n\n\nWe urge you to use this tragic anniversary to demonstrate need and resolve by participating in a rally or other event that local Ukrainians are hosting on Feb. 24 or Feb. 25: \n\n\n\nCA – Los Angeles:https://www.facebook.com/events/1433291477623836/https://www.facebook.com/events/1086304085855262/ (auto rally)CA – San Diego:https://www.facebook.com/events/1328666797840700/ (fundraiser)CA – San Francisco:https://www.facebook.com/events/844859137439082/ (auto rally)CO – Denver:https://www.facebook.com/events/324173363737901/CT – Hartford:https://www.facebook.com/events/349605357965212/District of Columbia – Washington DC: https://www.facebook.com/events/892714775681965HI – Honolulu:https://www.facebook.com/events/1163343175046955/IL – Chicago:https://www.facebook.com/events/1048034142978491/MA – Boston:https://www.facebook.com/events/388857010366529/MI – Detroit:https://www.facebook.com/events/637067795140957/MI – Grand Rapids:https://www.facebook.com/events/936960738090306/MN – Minneapolis:https://www.facebook.com/events/344734181850945/NC – Asheville:https://www.facebook.com/events/3381827465443069/NY – New York:https://ukrainianinstitute.org/event/24-february-2024/ (open house)OH – Cleveland:https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=779257527565985PA – Philadelphia: https://www.facebook.com/events/310533904861294/PA – Pittsburgh:https://www.facebook.com/events/7395367410520111/SC – Columbia:https://www.facebook.com/events/3687116931611887/SC – Greenville:https://www.facebook.com/events/963025491931998/TN – Nashville:https://www.facebook.com/events/1082021496331001/TX – Austin:https://www.facebook.com/events/751180146927665/TX – Dallas: https://www.facebook.com/events/424210626701438/ (auto rally)VT – Dummerston (near Brattleboro):https://www.facebook.com/events/784936526788877/WA – Seattle:https://www.facebook.com/events/763608985821498WI – Milwaukee:https://www.facebook.com/events/755763479310616/ \n\n\n\nPlease check local times and locations. Bring your family members\, friends and Baltic flags! SUMMARY:Atlantic Council: A Conversation on the US role in the NATO Alliance
DESCRIPTION:What is the United States’ role in the alliance and how can NATO members continue to support Ukraine? United States Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis discuss. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing: \n\n\n\n The Hon. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)Co-Chair\, Senate NATO Observer GroupUS SenateThe Hon. Thom Tillis (R-NC)Co-Chair\, Senate NATO Observer GroupUS Senate \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Join the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative\, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security\, on Monday\, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. for a conversation with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) . This conversation will be held virtually via Zoom. The war in Ukraine has ushered in a sea change in transatlantic security. In response to Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war\, the United States and its NATO allies have provided unprecedented military and political support to Ukraine in its fight for freedom\, increased the alliance’s deterrence and defense posture especially along its Eastern Flank\, and remained steadfast in maintaining an “open door policy” for prospective new members such as Sweden and Finland. Still\, as Russia’s war in Ukraine shifts into a new phase and NATO contemplates how to adapt in a changed security environment\, it is imperative that the transatlantic community explores what is next for the Alliance and the United States specifically. The Atlantic Council is excited to welcome Senators Shaheen and Tillis to discuss what long-term support the United States and its allies can offer to Ukraine and its people\, how to strengthen Western resolve and unity through the upcoming winter\, and how to bolster collective defense to resist expanding Russian aggression\, including in critical regions such as the Black Sea.The Scowcroft Center’s Transatlantic Security Initiative is pleased to present this live event as part of the Atlantic Council’s #ACFrontPage event series\, our premier ideas platform spotlighting global leaders and championing constructive solutions to global challenges. The Transatlantic Security Initiative shapes and influences the debate on the greatest security challenges facing the North Atlantic Alliance and its key partners.\n\n\n\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Baltic Advocacy Days
DESCRIPTION:This event organized by JBANC is a timely opportunity for Baltic Americans and their friends to come together and engage with Congress about the security and economic issues impacting the United States’ relationship with the Baltic states. As a constituent\, you have enormous power to shine a light on these very important issues in today’s reality of a horrific and unjustified war that the Russian Federation is waging against the Ukrainian people. All this happening threateningly close to the Baltics.  \n\n\n\nFor the second year in a row\, Baltic Advocacy Days will be held virtually\, spanning the week of May 2-6\, 2022. All meetings will be scheduled during regular business hours (EST time). \n\n\n\nDue to the uncertainties that the Covid-19 pandemic has introduced to our social lives\, we have chosen to take this approach\, which also opens up participation to anyone with a smart device and stable internet connection from around the country. With Congress slowly opening back up\, there might be some opportunities to also organize in-person meetings if possible. As of this time\, we don’t know the timetable for a reopening.  \n\n\n\nNo prior experience is needed to participate as a Baltic advocate. \n\n\n\nJBANC will issue a one-pager and brief you on the priorities that we plan to raise. We will also provide a voluntary training opportunity for everyone involved\, as well as assign you with a team of other constituents and/or JBANC team members. All these activities will serve as support mechanisms in your preparation process. If you are interested in leading a group or reaching out to any of the offices\, we could also provide you with useful information about this process. If not\, you are welcome to play a background role during these meetings\, which is just as important. Strength in numbers can be an advantage! \n\n\n\nBy filling out the registration form we assume you are making a commitment to participate in at least one meeting with a Congressional office as a constituent. Each meeting typically lasts around 15-30 minutes.  \n\n\n\nWhile we understand that schedules might change\, it’s important that you make every effort to participate once you have made this commitment. The virtual format gives us all a little wiggle room when scheduling these meetings. \n\n\n\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Security and Digital Governance
DESCRIPTION:In-person event. \n\n\n\nThe Baltic nations of Eastern Europe have often been at risk from their larger neighbors. After Estonia regained its independence with the fall of the Soviet Union\, it secured the chance to determine its own future as a democracy. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has again elevated the attention to European security and particularly to NATO’s mission to deter conflicts. Ambassador Kristjan Prikk directly addressed these questions in his former roles as the Permanent Secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Defense and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will also describe Estonia’s role in NATO’s cyber defense and the campaign to counter Russian disinformation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristjan Prikk\, Estonian Ambassador to the US\, will give his insights into Estonia’s place as a leader in digital governance and cybersecurity\, with insight into the security situation in Eastern Europe. With time for audience Q&A\, the audience will have to opportunity to dive deeper into these topics and others. \n\n\n\nThe conversation will be facilitated by Lauren Swartz\, President & CEO of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. \n\n\n\nWalk-ins are not permitted and registration is required.   \n\n\n\n\nRegister for “Security and Digital Governance with Kristjan Prikk\, Ambassador of Estonia” (wacphila.org)

Russia’s continued election meddling\, border revisionism\, and continued provocations against Central and Eastern European NATO members widen the lens of this crisis\, especially as Russian demands have included a wide-reaching restructuring of Europe’s post-Cold War security system. In response\, European capitals from Tallinn to London have been in a flurry of policy debates and actions\, including negotiations\, arms shipments\, and sanctions coordination to push back against Russian aggression. As this crisis unfolds\, Europe’s policymakers and legislators will play an important role in approving and institutionalizing European states’ efforts to counter Russia’s aggression. To discuss what actions Europe can take in the face of the escalating crisis\, the Europe Center is proud to host legislators and parliamentarians from across Europe’s national parliaments and the European Parliament to discuss their perspectives of the crisis and what role European countries and European institutions must play in resolving it. SUMMARY:World Premiere! Singing Revolution: The Musical

It tells the tale of star-crossed lovers against the beautiful\, moving and timeless true story of Estonia’s 1987 song-filled\, peaceful uprising\, known the world over as the “Singing Revolution” against the Soviet Union\, which eventually restored the Republic of Estonia’s independence in 1991. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony Spinosa\, Co-creator: As a passionate theatre professional for over 30 years\, I have always been on the lookout for the inspiration for an original Broadway musical. When I first learned about Estonia’s Singing Revolution\, a light bulb went off in my head; people using the power of peaceful resistance\, literally singing as a shield against Soviet attacks\, is a story that I know I needed to tell. What a beautiful\, moving and timeless story\, and the premise for the perfect musical. \n\n\n\nThe Musical premieres in Los Angeles\, January 15\, 2022! Get your tickets and share the word today!
