Baltic Advocacy Days connects members of the Baltic diaspora and friends of the Baltics with their Congressional offices. \n\n\n\nBaltic Advocacy Days is an opportunity to inform members of Congress on the importance of the U.S. Baltic relationship as well as highlight the strength of Baltic American communities. \n\n\n\nJoin us in Washington\, D.C.\, to make Baltic voices heard and participate in a series of cultural\, educational\, and networking events. Your voice makes a difference! \n\n\n\nBaltic Advocacy Days consist of meetings between constituents and U.S. congressional offices to inform members of Congress about the importance of the U.S.-Baltic relationship\, the concerns of the Baltic American community\, and continuing support for Ukraine.  \n\n\n\nAttendees will participate in two or three meetings\, typically lasting approximately 30 minutes. DESCRIPTION:Join our partners from the Joint Baltic Americans National Committee on September 18th at 9am (4pm EET) for the fifth edition of Baltic Spotlight\, featuring Dr. Māris Andžāns\, Director of the Center for Geopolitical Studies Riga. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe discussion will be focused on the Latvian response to the invasion of Ukraine\, including the increase in spending\, defensive capabilities\, and the start of conscription.About the Speaker: Māris Andžāns\, Dr.sc.pol.\, is the Director of the Center for Geopolitical Studies Riga and an Associate Professor at Riga Stradins University. Previously\, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard University Davis Center\, a Fellow at the Academy of International Affairs NRW in Bonn\, Germany and a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He was also the Vice Rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences and Senior Researcher at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs.He has authored more than 110 publications\, primarily on security and defense issues of the Baltic states\, but also Central Asia\, as well as on transport and digital policies. Dr. Andžāns has ten years of experience in the public administration of Latvia. He served in positions related to the coordination of EU and NATO issues\, security of transport and communications\, civil-military cooperation\, aviation\, electronic communications\, and postal issues. DESCRIPTION:This event organized by JBANC is a timely opportunity for Baltic Americans and their friends to come together and engage with Congress about the security and economic issues impacting the United States’ relationship with the Baltic states. As a constituent\, you have enormous power to shine a light on these very important issues in today’s reality of a horrific and unjustified war that the Russian Federation is waging against the Ukrainian people. All this happening threateningly close to the Baltics.  \n\n\n\nFor the second year in a row\, Baltic Advocacy Days will be held virtually\, spanning the week of May 2-6\, 2022. All meetings will be scheduled during regular business hours (EST time). \n\n\n\nDue to the uncertainties that the Covid-19 pandemic has introduced to our social lives\, we have chosen to take this approach\, which also opens up participation to anyone with a smart device and stable internet connection from around the country. With Congress slowly opening back up\, there might be some opportunities to also organize in-person meetings if possible. As of this time\, we don’t know the timetable for a reopening.  \n\n\n\nNo prior experience is needed to participate as a Baltic advocate. \n\n\n\nJBANC will issue a one-pager and brief you on the priorities that we plan to raise. We will also provide a voluntary training opportunity for everyone involved\, as well as assign you with a team of other constituents and/or JBANC team members. All these activities will serve as support mechanisms in your preparation process. If you are interested in leading a group or reaching out to any of the offices\, we could also provide you with useful information about this process. If not\, you are welcome to play a background role during these meetings\, which is just as important. Strength in numbers can be an advantage! \n\n\n\nBy filling out the registration form we assume you are making a commitment to participate in at least one meeting with a Congressional office as a constituent. Each meeting typically lasts around 15-30 minutes.  \n\n\n\nWhile we understand that schedules might change\, it’s important that you make every effort to participate once you have made this commitment. The virtual format gives us all a little wiggle room when scheduling these meetings. \n\n\n\n\nRegister here

After Estonia regained its independence with the fall of the Soviet Union\, it secured the chance to determine its own future as a democracy. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has again elevated the attention to European security and particularly to NATO’s mission to deter conflicts. Ambassador Kristjan Prikk directly addressed these questions in his former roles as the Permanent Secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Defense and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will also describe Estonia’s role in NATO’s cyber defense and the campaign to counter Russian disinformation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristjan Prikk\, Estonian Ambassador to the US\, will give his insights into Estonia’s place as a leader in digital governance and cybersecurity\, with insight into the security situation in Eastern Europe.
